Project Description

City of Mendota Junior High Safe Routes to School

The City of Mendota was awarded an Active Transportation Program (ATP) Grant to improve the pedestrian crossing of Belmont Avenue in front of Mendota Junior High School. The marked crosswalk was enhanced with fully accessible curb ramps and push-button activated overhead flashing beacons and warning signs. The adjacent intersection was also improved with solar powered LED illuminated crosswalk warning signs. The improvements provide a safer crossing of Belmont Avenue, an arterial street, that separates the residential area of the city from the school, thus inviting students and parents to utilize more active forms of transportation to and from school.
