Provost & Pritchard provided Title I preliminary civil engineering services and land surveying in support of the preparation of an Existing Site Conditions Assessment report to supplement a Historic Structures Report for the Superintendent’s Building at Carlsbad Caverns National Park. The Superintendent’s Building was designed in 1932 by Thomas C, Vint, Chief Landscape Architect, Western Field Office, San Francisco and constructed in 1932. The building is a large, rambling, one-story, multi-level structure consisting of four rectangular units, or wings, adjoined in an irregular plan. The walls are of rough-cut limestone and the design was influenced by the pueblo revival style. While the exterior of the building had not been altered and was in overall good condition, it was suffering from water damage due to site drainage issues. The project team performed a topographic survey of the site using GPS and Terrestrial LiDAR to provide the existing conditions for the civil and architectural work. A final report of the conditions was prepared for the Park Service to guide future drainage design and improvements.
