Project Description

Gary R. Serrato Intertie Facility

Fresno Irrigation District’s (FID) Gary R. Serrato Intertie Facility Project consists of a 200 cfs-capacity pump station connecting the Gould Canal with the Friant-Kern Canal (FKC), allowing the diversion of water into the FKC. The pump discharges into a pipe manifold and water is delivered through approximately 185 feet of 84-inch diameter pipeline into a new outlet structure in the FKC.

Working with the Bureau of Reclamation, Provost & Pritchard also prepared the necessary joint CEQA and NEPA-compliant documents to fully analyze the potential environmental impacts.

The project increased the water supply reliability, enhanced operational flexibility, and reduced system constraints by providing a mechanism for water transfer between the Kings River and FKC systems. This allows more opportunities for the water to be used more efficiently by the water users along the FKC. The project allows FID to divert floodwater and other exchanged supplies from the Kings’ system to the Friant system and into their groundwater banking facilities and therefore supporting the goals of California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).
