Project Description

Friant-Kern Turnout, Raw Water Pipeline

Provost & Pritchard provided design services for the 4.6-mile-long, 60-inch diameter raw water supply pipeline from the Friant-Kern Canal to the City of Fresno’s Northeast Surface Water Treatment Facility. The project includes a new turnout in the FKC and a pipeline that crosses existing utilities, including the Big Dry Creek Diversion Channel. The team worked carefully as the project was near sensitive biological and cultural areas. Provost & Pritchard responsibilities included design of the eastern half of the alignment from Auberry Road, including the Big Dry Creek diversion channel crossing. The specifications included bid alternates for concrete cylinder pipe, CML&C welded steel pipe, or ductile iron pipe. Coordination and obtaining approval from the County of Fresno, Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District, Garfield Water District, City of Clovis, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and utility companies has been a critical component of the project. Provost & Pritchard was also responsible for an alignment comparison report and selection, environmental documentation, right-of-way acquisition, survey, bidding and construction support.
